New Chair and Vice Chair for Highland Youth Parliament

1st March 2021

The Highland Youth Parliament (HYP) has voted in a new Chair, Innes Morgan from Thurso and Vice Chair, Isaac Beckley from Glenurquhart, near Inverness.

The Highland Youth Parliament is the elected parliament for young people in the Highlands with over 100 elected members via schools and youth forums across the area. It is a key way for young people in the Highlands to have a voice and engage in decision-making processes that affect their lives. They will be supported in the roles by High Life Highland's Youth Development team.

Mark Richardson Principal Youth Work Manager for High Life Highland said, "Both Innes and Issac bring some years of experience of being involved in Highland Youth Parliament and their local youth forums and groups, I am sure they will be a great support to young people who have recently joined HYP. "

Innes Morgan from Thurso who is looking forward to representing young people and leading on the HYP in his new role said, "I am ecstatic to have been elected Chairperson of the Highland Youth Parliament along with Issac Beckley as Vice-Chair, it's a real privilege to be able to have this opportunity. I am very much looking forward to working alongside Issac and others in HYP - as well as other groups - to help ensure young people in the Highland's continue to be heard in the decision making process. COVID-19 has highlighted the pre-existing challenges young people face and we need to address these challenges directly if we want to successfully recover, so now more than ever young people need to be heard."

Isaac Beckley from Glenurquhart who was elected Vice-Chair noted, "I am delighted to be HYP's new Vice-Chair, and I am excited to work with you all to ensure young people's voice are heard. I hope to help increase the membership and participation of HYP all around the area."
