Bookbug Week is coming: 15-21 May!

Take part in Bookbug Week with us by joining in with a whole week of FREE, special events taking place all over Scotland for families with babies and young children.

This year's theme is Bookbug's Big Giggle, and there will be a whole host of fun story, song and rhyme activities taking place in local libraries and community venues. If you're planning Bookbug Week events for your organisation, please click here for more information.

Find out what's happening in your local area

Lots of special activities will be taking place across Scotland to celebrate Bookbug Week. Click here to find out what’s happening near you! You can also look out for posters or ask at your local library for more information.

Join in at home

If you’re not able to make it along to a local Bookbug Session or event, there are still lots of ways you can join in at home:

Enter our competitions

We’ll be running special competitions on our website and facebook page throughout the week.

Watch our special Authors Live

Alex T Smith, author and illustrator of the fantastic Claude series will be joining us for a special Bookbug Week Authors Live. Tune in live from home or at nursery on 17th May at 11am or watch on-demand.

Try these activities with your little ones:

Colour in a lion mask and play peekaboo!

Print off our special Bookbug Week mask drawn by children’s book illustrator Kasia Matyjaszek. When your little one has coloured it in or decorated it, help them attach it using wool or string and play peekaboo together. You can also download and print our Bookbug character colouring in sheets.

Share a funny story together

We’ve put together some great funny book suggestions to inspire you and give you the giggles. Have a look at our book lists to discover some fantastic books to share with your little ones.

Visit our new online Song and Rhyme Library - launching in Bookbug Week!

Our new Song and Rhyme Library has lots of great song and rhyme ideas. It’s great for learning the words, tunes or actions or to get a wee reminder. Try singing a silly song with your little one and add your own funny actions, dance around the room or try one of the ticking rhymes to be sure of a giggle.

You can also sing along to our Bookbug CDs in your Bookbug Bags or online and add your own actions, or dance along to the instrumental tunes like Fits O’Giggles or Stompin Mokum, or The Jamaica Plain Rag.

Don’t forget to let us know what you’re up to - we’d love to hear how you’ve taken part!

If you have any great photos, stories or feedback from Bookbug’s Big Giggle, please share them with us by emailing them to beth.crozier@scottishbooktrust.com and we'll put them up on our Facebook page throughout the week! Please ensure that you have full photo permissions for any photos that you send us.

In Wick the usual Bookbug session on Wednesday 11.00am - 11.30am will follow the Bookbug theme for Bookbug week.

Thurso Bookbug sessions on a Tuesday 14:00 to 14:30 and Friday 10:30 to 11:00
