Joe is running from Landsend to John O'Groats in 50 days to raise money for a hospital in Nigeria. He has been going it alone with no back-up team and getting people to put him up along the way.

Bill Fernie met up with him on Wednesday on his way home from inverness and invited him to stay a couple of nights when he arrived in Caithness. He walked through Wick today to Reiss and will continue so that he arrives on Friday 17th May at about 4.00pm. Bill will be there to get photos along with many other local people to wish him well.

About The Project
Joseph Mbu is Nigerian by birth but was educated from the age of 9 in the UK. He is a former professional rugby player with Premiership sides Bath, Harlequins and London Wasps, as well as playing in the French Top 14 for Section Paloise and US Dax before being forced to retire through injury. Joe also currently spends a great deal of time developing rugby in his native Nigeria with the Nigerian National side affectionately known as ‘The Black Stallions’.

On 29th March 2013, he embarks upon an epic challenge to raise money for a good cause close to his heart. Joe is running solo from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise money for a hospital built by his grandparents in Okundi, Western Nigeria. The hospital was built in 1998 in memory of his late father and uncle and is called The Joedy Memorial Hospital. Originally built as a maternity hospital, it soon found itself treating everyone who came through its doors. It is now in great need of refurbishment as well as ongoing financial support to ensure that there is free medical treatment available for everyone in the surrounding area. Joe is trying to raise £100,000 through his UK contacts and about £500,000 worldwide.
