High visibility police campaign welcomed by communities

LOCAL Police throughout the Highlands and Islands took part in a national Campaign Against Violence on Friday 12 April.

As part of the Police Scotland's Violence Reduction Strategy, additional and dedicated patrols, utilising all available officers, are scheduled throughout the year to focus on tackling all types of violence and anti-social behaviour.

Twelve people were reported for various offences, including possession of a bladed weapon, disorder and obstruction of a drugs search. There were five positive drugs searches, twenty curfew bail checks and 137 licensed premises checks were carried out. In addition, checks were carried out at two scrap merchants and two recycling plants.

Chief Inspector Colin Gough said: "The response from members of the public to the high visibility policing was excellent. People welcomed the very visible presence of police in many areas and in general it was a very quiet weekend with low incidents of disorder.”
