Council invites Highland people to find out why Play Matters

For people where play is an important part of their work or local community, a seminar has been organised on Monday 4 March in Inverness.

Around 60 teachers and practitioners have already signed up for the seminar which will take place in Highland Council’s headquarters at Glenurquhart Road.

Councillor Linda Munro, Highland Council’s Children's Champion said: “Play should be an important part of community life for everyone. We already have around 60 people booked into this free seminar, but I would urge others including community council and community group representatives with an interest in play in their local areas to come and take part.”

She added: “There will be various play-based workshops on outdoor learning; access for all; early years’ action; community treasure mapping; the truth and myth of healthy and safety; and space for play in our natural environment. We will also be hearing from keynote speaker Dr John McKendrick of Glasgow University who has been a Play Scotland Director since 1997.”

A new Play Highland website is being launched and people can sign up as members at the Seminar. The website will be a hub to share information, events, evaluation tools, good practice and much more.
