Fuunding opportunity - For Breakfast Clubs
Funding for Breakfast Clubs Kellogg’s have joined up with Forever Manchester, a UK charity to deliver the Help Give a Child a Breakfast campaign in the UK.   Through the campaign, schools can apply for funding to support their Breakfast Clubs.

The Brough Archive, created from photographs, artefacts and memories from the local community, was initially collected by members of Brough Bay Association, all volunteers, as part of a project to renovate the Brough Harbour in 2011.   They have since continued to update the digital archive, and last week launched an new database at Castlehill Heritage Centre where the public can view it.

HND Equine Students from The North Highland College UHI hosted the first ever indoor Puissance in Caithness last weekend.  The ‘Jumping Extravaganza’ consisted of a Jumping Derby in the morning with a mixture of 10 showjumps and working hunter jumps. The afternoon saw riders of all levels compete - jumping over the puissance wall at the colleges newly built Land-based Centre of Excellence at Dale Farm, Halkirk.

Police in Wick are appealing for any information following the loss of prescription medication within Wick town centre between Friday 07 March and Wednesday 12 March 2014: Fluoxetine 20mg This medication is for the use of the prescribed person only and could be harmful if consumed by any other person.   If found, please hand in to your nearest Police Station, Health Centre or Pharmacy immediately, or contact Police on 101..

We’re off of a brilliant start, with all our 170 MDF blank postcard size pieces of wood handed out or collected by locals from Caithness Horizons, St Fergus Art Gallery and Castlehill Heritage Centre in the first couple of weeks! We’re delighted with everyone’s enthusiasm to join in.   Now they are getting arty and inspired by the SEA, wonderful artwork has started to be returned and I’ve been adding images to the blog as it arrives.

Survey reveals people’s worsening mental health as benefit cuts, unemployment and poor housing affect communities.   A survey of mental health social workers and professionals from a leading mental health charity has revealed a growing crisis in mental wellbeing as communities struggle with a combination of hardships including benefit changes, unemployment and poor housing.

Government fails to empower disabled people
Tressa Burke, chief executive of Glasgow Disability Alliance, explains why her organisation is objecting to the community empowerment bill.   “They want to know what disabled people think about community empowerment but they won’t enable us to read it,” said a Glasgow Disability Alliance member during our recent consultation for disabled people on the proposed community empowerment bill.

Integration becomes a reality with rights at the centre
The Public Bodies (Joint Working) (Scotland) Bill passed through the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday (25 February) as MSPs voted to include reference to rights based approaches.   The Bill, which aims to integrate health and social care services across Scotland so that people who use support and services experience them as a seamless service, reached its final stage of Parliamentary scrutiny on Tuesday.
