Biggest passenger ship passes through Pentland Firth's narrow Inner Sound, in between Caithness's Canisbay shoreline and Stroma Island.   The 37,300 tonne, 200 metre (655 feet) long cruise liner Saga Sapphire has become the largest passenger ship at least in decades, if not ever, to navigate the Pentland Firth's Inner Sound.

Glasgow 2014 spectators encouraged to support travel carbon project and boost city woodlands
BP today announced that its not-for-profit carbon management programme, BP Target Neutral, will help minimise the carbon footprint of spectator travel to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.   As ticket envelopes reach homes across the UK this week, spectators are being encouraged to offset the carbon footprint of their travel to the Games for free by registering at bptargetneutral.com/offsetglasgow2014.

New Law To hit Dangerous Dog Owners
* New powers To control Dangerous Dogs * Longer Prison Sentences For Irresponsible Dog Owners * New Powers For Police and Local Authorities * Laws already in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland The Communication Workers Union (CWU) - which represents the largest number of dog attack victims in the UK - is welcoming tough new dog control laws introduced today.   The CWU campaigned for seven years to secure changes to the Dangerous Dog Act, during which time 30,000 postal workers were attacked by dogs suffering near-fatal injuries.

Thurso Surf Centre Awarded £5000 by SSE Sustainable Development Fund
Community projects across the Highlands - including a new visitor centre in the Great Glen and an essential upgrade to an off-grid community hydro electric scheme in Knoydart - will share £1million from SSE’s new Highland Sustainable Development Fund.   Funded by SSE’s onshore wind farms, the Sustainable Development Fund is open to all non-profit making organisations, community groups and charities working in the Highland Council region.
