As part of The Highland Council Caithness Countryside Ranger summer activities sixteen children spent a morning at the Seadrift Visitor Centre in Dunnet Bay creating their very own masks using everyday household items.   Batman, butterflies, elephants a mermaid and many others were all carefully designed, cut out and painted by the children.

A student from Halkirk in Caithness has been awarded two prestigious accolades at Queen Margaret University's recent graduation ceremony in Edinburgh.   22 year old student, Louise Jean Thoms, was presented with the FujiFilm Medical Systems Award for Academic Excellence.

INCH by inch, the multi-wheeled trailer is backed across the metal bridge onto the barge that delivered it to Scalesburn on Wick's north shore.   The trailer is slid under the massive 200 tonnes towhead and secured.

What's On At Caithness Horizons - July 2014
Cafe Exhibitions TTIA Thurso Gala Children's Art Competition The annual Thurso Gala children's art competition will be exhibited in the cafe and cafe corridor throughout July.   This year's competition follows the theme of Vikings and includes some fantastic Viking longships.

PLAY IT SAFE AROUND RIVERS, RESERVOIRS AND LOCHS
Scottish Water is reminding people to play it safe in or near rivers, reservoirs and lochs.   Following the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy at a reservoir near Edinburgh earlier this week, we are again advising people not to take risks around watercourses and calling on children in particular to take care near water during the summer holidays and any spells of warm weather we might enjoy.
