CAITHNESS Heart Support group recently bade a fond farewell to its patron Miss Anne Dunnett who retired from public life recently. The group was only one of several local organisations Miss Dunnett was involved in, not least as the county's Lord Lieutenant.
After an extremely busy breeding season, most of the nesting birds have now left St Johns Pool, near Dunnet which gave the Caithness Countryside Volunteers the ideal opportunity to get into action before the winter migrants begin to arrive. The volunteers undertook a range of activities such as wood preserving the viewing hides and fence posts.

Robert Smith has signed up for the Kilt Walk in Edinburgh on September 17th to raise money in aid of Home-Start Caithness. "I spent my childhood in Caithness and have decided to support their local branch of Home-Start.
Caithness Health Action Team (CHAT) has gathered 2,410 postcards from members of the public protesting the centralisation of health services under NHS Highland. The postcards carry the slogan ‘100 miles too far' in reference to the 100 mile journey patients frequently have to travel to receive basic care.
Could you volunteer for Home-Start Caithness? We are a family charity that works with young families who need a little extra support and friendship. We need both men and women who have parenting experience to join our team of dedicated volunteers and befriend a family that needs just that little extra support.

The rain was forecast and it came as predicted. The first couple hours up until about 9.00am were dry then rain came on steadily but the ground remained firm all day.

Caithness & North Sutherland Fund's latest grant assessment round has awarded over £17k to community projects throughout the Caithness & North Sutherland area. The Caithness Broch Project was granted £10,000 towards costs of holding a Caithness Broch Festival, consisting of a programme of participative archaeological activities that will be held throughout the year focusing around two selected Caithness broch sites.
