Pupils demonstrate delivery of Broad General Education in Highland
Two primary pupils from Fort William gave an inspiring presentation to members of The Highland Council's Education, Children and Adult Service Committee this week (11 Feb 2015) in Inverness.   Ami Robertson and Teresa MacDonald of Upper Achintore Primary explained to members and senior council management what their experience of the Broad General Education of Curriculum for Excellence has been to date.

Performance of Police and Fire services in Caithness & Sutherland under the spotlight
During this week's Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee councillors had the opportunity to scrutinise and discuss progress reports from the Police and Fire services and to find out more details about the work underway to address local priorities.   Chief Inspector Iain MacLelland presented the Police Scotland Area Performance Summary and started by highlighting that the overall crime across the Highlands continues to fall while detection rates are increasing.

Plantlife, the wild plant conservation charity which own and manage Munsary Peatland nature reserve in Caithness have been given a boost for their project to improve the visitor experience to a site of international importance.   Members of the Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee gave their support to the group's application for £9,914 from the Council's Landfill Communities Fund to go towards a £20,605 project to carry out work to make the site more accessible.

CAITHNESS RAIL JOURNEYS FALL BY AT 6% IN 2013/14
Highland MSP, Rhoda Grant who has spearheaded the campaign for improvements to the far north line is highlighting figures from the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) that have recorded a 6% fall in the usage of rail stations in Caithness in 2013-14.  Meanwhile, figures from the ORR revealed that nationally across the UK rail journeys had risen by 5%.

Damage to Motor Vehicles, Barrogill Street, Wick
Overnight on Thursday 29th January 2015, into the morning of Friday 30th January 2015 several motor cars which were parked on Barrogill Street, Wick, were damaged by having a sharp object drawn along one side of each vehicle, leaving deep scratches in the paintwork.   If anyone has any information about the incident they are encouraged to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.
